ReplyDeleteI look up at the green leaves on the great Oak Tree blowing in the warm summer breeze. As much as I have loved the first day of summer in my past, this year seems different. Now that I am thirteen I do not feel like I should be running through the neighborhood playing kickball with the boys or riding my bike to the baseball fields with the boys. I've decided to turn into an actual girl now. Dresses, heels, make-up, whole deal.
"Christine! Grab your bike! We're headin' to the fields!" Adam yells to me as he jumps onto his bike.
"No... No, thanks. I... I... I have to help my mom." I never thought these words would come out of my mouth. I hate helping my mom and everyone knows that, especially Adam.
"Oh. Well okay then! If you get done early, come meet us there!" He pedals off toward the fields.
I look back up into the tree a mutter to the leaves as if they are listening, "Being a girly-girl better be worth it."
